20 x 30 inch oil on stretched canvas, inspired by a trip I took with my father into the Arrivipa Wilderness Preserve in 1970. It is the fifth painting in my series titled Unforgettable. One of the more memorable trips I took with my dad, it was going to be just the two of us for three days and nights, sleeping under the stars, eating beef jerky and granola cookies my mother baked,… The first night, the sky was truly amazing, and sitting around the campfire, I finally learned how to tie a square knot. Early the next morning though, one of the horses threw a shoe, and we had to turn back. Dad was a big man, & concerned his horse might split a hoof if he rode it over such rocky terrain, he walked her. Cowboy boots though, are made for riding, not walking, so along the way, we stopped multiple times to rest his barking dogs in the wonderfully cool creek. As for this tenderfoot, following a full day in the saddle and night on the ground, my feet were my least tender body parts, so I too found these stops to be most welcome respites on an unforgettable trip!
