The Cliché

One day in a gallery in Hawaii, a friend was admiring a VERY EXPENSIVE moonlit, see-through wave seascape. I cautioned him that he would do well not to spend good money on a painting with such a trite subject! But - if he just had to have it, it would be better that I paint one for him as a gift! So I did! And I called it "The Cliché", of course. Oh, and it's another poor photo!) Oil on linen

you are unbelievable clever with painting seascapes! Love this one very much! Have you seen my wave? Not the same but a little abstract and with a meaning about life.

Wow! this is like a shinning cool soothing dream...Excellent work...I love everything about it. so romantic...like Edgar Allen Poe is in there unseen or something.

it's a shame when one of Nature's more exquisite moments becomes trite. we just can't get enough of it. i like your limited palette

LOL " The Cliche" . I do love the moonlit effect. Very good play of texture and lighting effects

Oh my! This is fantastic! I love your paintings! Just a wonderful seascape beneath that beautiful moonlit sky!!

Oh! I wish I could paint waves like that! I don't care if it IS cliché. Some things are just plain beautiful no matter what. Now as far as the é is concerned, just copy it from this message and paste it where you want it. It will work.

Well, the photo may be poor and the subject cliche (with an accent over the e) but I still like the way you have captured the light shining through the wave in your painting. I recently bought a book of wave photographs and I always love the photos with the light shining through like that. I also like the smooth water before the wave with the reflecting moonlight. I hope your friend was pleased with the gift.

Betty , i'm hugely impressed with all your work but the light through the wave really attracted me here and I love your story of why you did it , I began in a similar way with a challenge from my hubs .

What gorgeous ocean paintings. Wonderful.

Artist Reply: Thank you, Emily, for your kind comment. I have the wonderful Pacific Ocean right down the street - in case I forget what it looks like!

You have a masterful ability with water, waves, sand and light creating outstanding beauty... this shows even if the photo can't give us the best presentation... Fabulous oil painting Betty!! :o)
