To be honest that is what has probably put me off in the past, plus I do not seem to get on very well with using any paint generally (having tried many times in the past). Perhaps it may be time to give it a go !

Aha, now it all makes sense the airbrush effect is clearly there, something I have never tried but looks so cool !

Artist Reply: You might really like it. I think it would fit with your style of artwork really well . But it definitely takes time and effort to get familiar with it though.

Acrylic and colour pencil ? now that sounds interesting ! I have previously tried laying down blocks of colour with Copic markers and then using colour pencil over the top of that (using Bristol paper) would this be a similar method with the Accrylics and colour pencil ? or would you also go back over the pencil with acrylics depending on what was needed ?

Artist Reply: Yeah I think that would be very similar. I draw/render the base art first. Using a HB and 8B pencil. Using acrylic black I brush in the total black areas. Then I use an airbrush to apply the colored acrylics, then the color pencils. Often I bring out brighter highlights by applying acrylics with a traditional brush over the top of the airbrushed/colored pencil areas. This all done on gessoed illustration board.

Beautifully done Ryan, I probably gravitate to this one out of all your other works due to the subject matter being a beautiful woman, I love the way you have rendered the lips and the eye there is depth and careful attention to detail. It is also an interesting take on how to portray a face with only a part of it being visible. I wonder is this a crop from a larger drawing ?

Artist Reply: Thank you Philip! This is the entirety of the painting. I view this painting as more of a study. Practicing the technique that I feel I’m still learning from. Mix medium of acrylic and color pencil. Even though it’s more of a study, I still wanted it to be interesting. So I thought about a pretty woman taking a selfie of her self close up.
