Hidden Bruises

16 in x 20 in (40.6 cm x 50.8 cm); Unique Work, (1 of 1); "Hidden Bruises" is a mixed media painting that explores the process of healing from emotional wounds. The piece is layered with acrylic paint, collaged paper, and glass shards, creating a complex and textured surface that reflects the complexities of human experience. The bottom layer of the painting is a deep purple, reminiscent of a fresh bruise. This layer explores themes of pain, vulnerability, and the emotional weight of carrying burdens. As the layers move upward, the colors transition to warmer tones, reflecting the gradual process of healing. The top layer is a vibrant yellow, symbolizing the light and hope that emerges after darkness. Each layer features fragments of poetry from Nelle Sterling's "To Be Honest" and Bridgett Devoue's "Soft Thorns", exploring themes of hurt, vulnerability, resilience, growth, and the ability to move forward despite past pain. The red glass shards scattered throughout the painting represent the scars that remain after healing. The shards are beautifully imperfect, a reminder that even after healing, our past experiences leave their mark. The textures of the painting further emphasize the lingering effects of emotional bruises, even when they have faded from view. "Hidden Bruises" invites viewers to contemplate the enduring impact of emotional wounds and the journey of healing. The piece is a testament to the human capacity for resilience and the beauty that can emerge even from the darkest of times.
