The Reds had lost three world series in a row in 1961, 1970, and 1972, since last winning the series in 1940. This time the Big Red Machine was not going to be deprived of a world series championship. The Reds were world champions in 1975 and 1976. Joe Morgan won the Most Valuable Player Award for the National League in 1975 and 1976. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1990.
