Sitting Bull

Ebony Pencil on bristol board 13 x 10. . . . A chief of the Teton Dakota Sioux (1831-1890), he took up arms against settlers in the northern Great Plains and against US Army troops. He was present at the battle of Little Bighorn (1876). . . .I was taken in by the spirit of his image (still being very impressionable at fifteen). When I was almost finished with the drawing, I had left the eyes for last and this disturbed all who had seen the unfinished work.
