When I was a kid I use to do my haircut with this street barber, you can't choose your own hairstyle it's all up to him......usually he dragged the clipper right to the top, which means only the top hair left the side are gone. Why? instruction had be given by my father.He had only one style, a grumpy old man.One of the vanishing trade...

My Dad used to cut hair on the "side" for his friends and their boys would be brought in for that same hair cut! Since it was free, there were no big complaints! I was glad I was a girl!!
