Artist Reply: MANY THANKS RAY. THIS ONE IS A RED HEADED WOODPECKER. IN MY PORTFOLIO IS A PICTURE I TOOK OF TWO PILIATED WOODPECKERS TOGETHER. THE BIGGEST WOODPECKERS. THOSE I CALL WOODY WOODPECKER.
I noticed that this woodpecker had dug a hole about six inches above on the same tree.
Artist Reply: PROBABLY ALL READY THERE. HE WASN'T THERE LONG AND I HAVE WOODPECKERS ALL THE TIME. THE PILEATED IS THE ONE WHO MAKES HUGE HOLES IN THE TREES BACK IN MY WOODS.
That is a male red-headed woodpecker.
Excellent composition!

Either the wood pecker has it easy, or you took a side shot, Joanie. Would not have known the truth had I not seen the tree ruts. lol :)Al Budarin 09 May 2022
