HEDY LAMARR - 1914 - 2000 The last time I did a color sketch of her was in 1977 when she was still alive. Her most memorable movie role was in the movie, "Samson and Delilah", a Cecil B. Demille epic. This is the first of many celebrity and historical portraits I will be doing in the next few years hopefully and God willing. Hedy Lamar was one of the rare beauties of the 1940's - 50's. She was one of many, including Vivian Leigh, Olivia de Haviland, Maureen O'Hara, Jeanne Crain and Gene Tierney. She was more than just a pretty face, though. In her off time from acting, she was fascinated by inventions and was credited with helping to implement secret communication systems. In 1997, Lamarr and Antheil received the Electronic Frontier Foundation Pioneer Award and the Bulbie Gnass Spirit of Achievement Bronze Award, given to individuals whose creative lifetime achievements in the arts, sciences, business, or invention fields have significantly contributed to society.[ Lamarr was featured on the Science Channel and the Discovery Channel. In 2014, Lamarr and Antheil were posthumously inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame.
