CPR McAdam Station NB

Watercolor… 12"x20"... this, the third and final expansion of the Canadian Pacific Railroad (CPR) Station and Hotel in McAdam, New Brunswick, was completed in 1901. It is also the third distinct railroad station erected in the town. This impressive structure was designed by Montreal Architect Edward Maxwell in a massive “Chateau” style, and it became a National Historic Site of Canada in 1976. Canadian Pacific gave up the station to VIA Rail in 1978, and VIA Rail discontinued passenger service through McAdam in 1994. Presently the station and hotel complex is jointly owned and maintained by the Government of New Brunswick, Parks Canada and The McAdam Historical Restoration Commission and sees use as a museum and reception venue. I visited and wandered around the premises in 2016, but did not go inside, as there was a large dining event in progress. This is the West facade, viewed from Saunders Road.

Hah ! Those old railwaystations. Before often a sample of beautiful en rich architecture. With us the railwaydirection turned off the money tap. The railwaystation of the nearby busy station of Vilvoorde has been waiting for a thorough renovation since more than 10 years and still looks dilapitaded. By the way a nice watercolor Jim
