Machinist Jake Holman (movie character ) serves aboard the USS San Pablo that patrolled the Yangtze river during clashes between Chiang Kai-shek's Nationalists & Chinese warlords in 1926. The 1962 movie “The Sand Pebbles” succeeds in capturing both the emotion of the situation of both intended & un-intended emotional attachments.
