Nina Mae

This is a portrait of Nina Mae McKinney(1912-1967). I'll bet you've never heard of her; I hadn't until just recently, and that's too bad. She was one of the first African-American film stars, and obviously an extravagantly beautiful woman. Most of her success came in Europe because 1930's racist Hollywood was afraid to use her in glamorous starring roles. Did I exaggerate her eyes for this portrait? I did not! Even though I often do that, her eyes were naturally that large and gorgeous. She was known as "The Black Garbo."
