My father enjoyed talking to German tourists back in the late 90's who had come to the USA to see the Hoover Dam & Las Vegas (he spoke German). He told me that tourists would sometimes stare at the long & straight dessert highways (among other things) in this huge land we call home. We take our highway system for granted (especially in summer) since we don't live in Europe.
