Grimbergen: The Barrier

Of course there is'nt a barrier these day's, that was something from longtime ago. But, till the fifties it was a very wellknown place. In the old days transport was oftenly done by push-carts and from the tram station of Grimbergen there was a two kilometer long slope in the direction of Brussels. Because the barrier was right half-way, it was a very welcome stop for the wagoner to take a drink in one of the cafees. At the other side, in the weekend, Brussels hobby- painters came to the picturesque Grimbergen, by tram, to enjoy their hobby. And before returning home they catched up with other artists in the cafés. In the seventies the tram track was replaced by busses and the old cafés were pulled down, but there is a large asphalt road ...... Image size: 260 x 360 mm
