The annual leaf fall date is important if you want to determine an estimate of how many deer are in an area. Record the day when just about all of the leaves are off the trees, usually a windy, rainy day. You can now find deer droppings ON TOP of the leaves in early spring, knowing that a deer poops on average 12.6 times a day, and also knowing how many acres of woods in the area are deer habitat, you can figure out a rough estimate of how many deer use the area.
