Extract from my book that was published in 2000………………………………. The following are a few lines from the foreword of a book on Organic Gardening by Geoff Hamilton. BBC Gardeners World. “I sometimes wonder what they’ll say about us in two centuries from now. Imagine a saloon bar in the 22nd century: Did you know that, two hundred years ago, they used to cover their food with poison and then eat it?” “How come they didn’t know it was poison”? “Well, that’s the strange thing. They did, but they still ate it! And did you know that they paid their farmers to produce huge amounts of food they knew they’d never eat, paid them again to store it for a couple of years, and then yet again to throw it away?”……………………………………………………… The extraordinary thing is people have been locked away for years in lunatic asylums for doing less! And yet you continue to elect and pay these officials to look after your future. Wake up everyone world-wide, you do not require experts to tell you whether food is safe or not, if it contains 1% of any poisonous chemical it is unfit for human consumption. It is rapidly becoming not a question of a ‘Silent Spring,’ but a ‘Silent Planet.’ Yet not silent as in peaceful, but full of more and more noise, the screaming noise of destruction. In the past few days yet another report has revealed, human breast milk contains dioxins 40% above the safety level for babies………………………. I will quote you a piece that Geoff Hamilton would appreciate…A recent article in the Journal of Applied Nutrition gave credence to the notion that organic foods have higher nutrient levels than non organic food. In this study the mineral content of organic apples, pear, potatoes, wheat, and sweet corn were compared to commercial varieties. Over all the organic foods showed much higher levels of nutrient minerals and much lower levels of heavy metals. Here are a few of the nutrients that were found in the higher levels in organic foods: ……………………………… Chromium is a micronutrient that is low in Western diets. Its deficiency is associated with the onset of adult diabetes and arteriosclerosis (hardening of the arteries). Chromium was found to be higher in organic foods by an average of 78%……………………….. Selenium is one of the antioxidant nutrients that protect us from damage by environmental chemicals. It is protective against cancers and heart disease. It is found to be an average of 390% higher in organic foods……………………………….. Calcium, needed for strong bones, average 63% higher. Boron, which has been shown to help prevent osteoporosis (along with calcium,) average 70% more. Lithium, which is used to treat certain types of depression, was 188% higher…………………………… Magnesium, which reduces mortality from heart attacks, keeps muscles from spasming, and eases symptoms of PMS, averaged 138% more………………………… Put the above finding together with the fact that the UK is bottom of the EU league for pesticide testing, and when they do test find lettuce have eleven sprayings of Malathion, an organophosphate- (mounting evidence they affect the nervous system)………………………………………… A former government scientist estimates that more than half a million people in Britain are ill because of exposure to pesticides! Dr Lewis Routledge, a biochemist who used to work for the Ministry of Agriculture has twin sons seriously ill after being poisoned with pesticides. In an Observer interview, Dr Routledge commented: “At least a third of all ME (chronic fatigue) cases are pesticide-related. Add to that cases of immune deficiency, asthma, irritable bowel syndrome, food and chemical allergies, the 7,000 or so farmers affected by organophosphates in sheep dip, and I think the half million figure is conservative. Even hay fever may be triggered by pesticides bound to pollen.”…………………………… Eve Balfour, Founder of the soil Association in 1946, made a visionary statement when she said, “Organic agriculture should become the primary health service.”…………………………….. ‘Tasting great’ and ‘feeling good’ will not, however, convince the sceptics that organic food is better for your heath. Now, thanks to the work of Jens Otto Anderson and his colleagues at the University of Copenhagen, and Dr. Ursula Balzer-Graf, from the institute of Vital Quality in Switzerland, new scientific breakthroughs have been made that prove the vital quality of organic food………………………..See Chapter 22 of a new ‘GREEN’ book out soon……………………………. In 2014 the Geoff Hamilton extract was reconfirmed by ‘The Newcastle University’ in a world-wide study……………………..My pic shows a green grocer that is in every Supermarket, Green- Grocers shop and Farm Shop WORLD-WIDE. The whole planet could be fed by organics and biodynamic farmers if they had the SAME subsidies as poison farmers. Remember what Thomas Paine said “We have it in our power to begin the world over again.”
