We visited Meryemana which is Turkish for "Mary's House". The stone house at this site is believed to be where the home of the Virgin Mary once stood. According to legend, she was taken to Turkey by the Apostle John to hide from the Romans after the crucifixion of Jesus. A few feet further away is a 20-yard-long fence on which people have attached prayers written on cloths and napkins, an Ephesus version of Jerusalem’s Wailing Wall. This is my wife, Valerie, adding her prayer to the fence.
