El Capitan

The Famous El Capitan of Yosemite National Park is a sheer wall of granite rock caused by alpine glaciers that moved through the valley and 10 million years of erosion. The El Capitan Rock, regarded by many as the most sublime feature of the Valley, is seen through the pine groves, standing forward beyond the general line of the wall in a most imposing grandeur, a type of permanence. It is about 3300 feet high, a plain, severely simple, glacier-sculptured face of granite, the end of one of the most compact and enduring of the mountain ridges, unrivaled in height and breadth and flawless strength. El Capitan's sheer walls attract experienced rock climbers, who have made many successful ascents. To Give you a sense of scale,on top of the rock are mature Pine Trees similar to what you see in the foreground of this image. El Cap as it is sometimes called, is the tallest granite monolith in the World. It is the second most famous Icon in Yosemite ,right after Half Dome
