California Yellow Bellied Marmot

A Yellow Bellied Marmot taken in the back country of Yosemite Natl Park,California. Yellow Bellied Marmots get their name from the yellow colorish fur on the underside . They can be found thorough out the western United States. Their cousin the Hoary Marmot which is more of a whiteish coloration is from Alaska. This animal has many different names. One name is a woodchuck. Other names are groundhog, whistling pigs, or marmot. Even though there are so many different names, they all mean the same animal. It is a member of the squirrel family. The Marmots are west of the Great Plains and their cousin the woodchuck/groundhog is East of the Great Plains.

great capture! The animal is sharp and well saturated, and the shallow DOF and dark background frame him nicely.
