Photographer Stephen Marino specialises in dance images, and kindly allowed me to create a painting from one of his photos. I've adjusted things somewhat, but wanted to maintain the feel of the viewer intruding upon a private moment on the stairwell - so I kept in the bit of out-of-focus bannister to the left to create that effect. The whole painting was a lot more difficult than I was expecting - the almost black clothing, the twisting pin-stripes, the crooked stairwell. But I'm pleased with the result in the end. It'll go with 'red, red wine' and the next painting I'm about to do, to create a set of similar pieces. 16" x 20", acrylic on block canvas, Jan 2012
