Painted on 190gsm art paper in acrylic and mixed media. Doorwerth Castle nr Arnhem, Holland, first mentioned in 1260AD when it was besieged and burned to the ground. It was rebuilt in stone around 1280AD only to be besieged again but only the Bailey was burned this time. Rebuilt again as a simple 2 story Hall-Keep with 1.2 mtr thick walls. This was surrounded by a moat fed by the nearby River Rhine. Over the centuries the castle was enlarged to it's present size. Over the years the castle fell into neglect but was restored in 1910 by a German Artillery Officer. After 1913 it was used by the Dutch as an Artillery Museum. The castle was badly damaged during the battle of Arnhem due to Germen destructiveness and allied shelling. After the war lengthy restorations began finally being finished in 1983. It was taken back to it's 18th century splendour. It is now owned by "The Friends of the Castles of Gelderland Foundation" who now maintain it as a museum. It is also said and suspected of being to haunted.
