Cave playing with the sunlight

This fascinating oil painting presents a cave landscape with a play of light. The composition is dominated by warm, earthy tones - various shades of brown, ochre and bright yellow. In the centre of the painting are the sinuous, organic shapes of the cave walls. The shapes are coloured in warm brown tones and are surrounded by bright yellow areas to represent the light entering the cave. In some places the colours seem to flow into each other, while in others they form clear boundaries. There is a small white area at the bottom of the painting that captures the sunlight hitting the floor of the cave, creating an interesting contrast to the otherwise warm colours. The painting conveys an atmosphere of warmth, mystery and natural beauty. The technique of oil on velvet is very rarely used as it is very time-consuming and difficult.
