The Fishermen

This large oil, acrylic and oil pastel painting depicts fishermen brothers, John and Sean McCartney collecting sticks, bracken and tea tree branches along the Mt Martha beach, Victoria, Australia, on a windy, summer afternoon in 1863. They burnt the sticks in their smoke house, and sold the fish to the Kirkpatrick and Grand hotels in nearby Mornington.
