I'm so fortunate to own this beautiful painting! I would love to know the history behind this painting.

Artist Reply: Hi! I'm so glad you wrote in! Thank-you for your wonderful comments!! This forum does not show the names of people that are not artwanted members so I would love to hear from you at my email, [email protected] and please leave your name. I've always wondered how you felt about that painting after all these years. A little known fact is that I worked on it some more to improve it before I auctioned it at the Ebell Fundraiser where you acquired it. It is different than this photo as I am sure you've noticed. I decided on the subject matter because my very good friend, Bea Rosenbaum lived across the street in of the most historical homes in our South Laguna Beach neighborhood on Bluff Drive. Her home is oceanfront and ours was behind it across the street (ours: 31522 Bluff Drive). My view off of my master bedroom balcony was of her house and the gorgeous pacific ocean with views of Catalina just above it. Nearly all of my work is inspired by that view. I have spent hours photographing, observing and painting the sun setting nearly every day of living there for 12 years. Now in Hawaii, I have a view of the ocean again only it is very different here. Just as beautiful, but different colors and so much green! Vibrant tropical colors and beautiful soft sunrises off the east coast of Hawai'i Island (the big island) are my views now. Thank-you for acquiring my work and thank-you for writing in! I'm so glad you are enjoying "Bea's Roof"! Big hugs and thank-you again for supporting Ebell!! Deborah Sussex

Another WOW painting, not sure how you get such excellent gradation from acrylics but you have certainly mastered it!

Artist Reply: Thank-you so much, John. I use layers and layers of tinted washes. I take my time with this method. I really allow each layer to dry before adding another one. This painting may have over 200 such washes. I like to alternate complimentary colors when painting the 'atmosphere'. Such as a yellow gold wash over a well dried lavender wash. It really gives it that 'dreamy' quality that I love.
