Deprived

Few things are as bright and beautiful as they appear on the surface; nothing is quite as dark or terrifying as it looks at first glance. In my work I explore the light side of dark, the dark side of light, the demons we all try to ignore and the beauty we just cannot seem to live without. This body of work (the Beautifully Repulsed) is about interpreting beauty in an unsettling manner that rejects the natural human form and sheds a sensual light on the perceptions of revulsion and the preternatural. They are a revolt against the common ideas of what beauty should and should not be. hey are outcries of broken self esteem and rippled by reflections of life encounters with creatures like myself. My figures are bold, ominous, hungry, and unwavering in holding their ground. This piece is in relation about a stray dog that was in our neighborhood. He was mangy and starved so bad he could have died within the day. There are many stray dogs in our subdivision, and all were kept fed, but this dog was shooed away because of its illness. We wanted to help it, but we were too late.
