The Decay

The Decay is a modern painting part of the first collection Connecting Time. Fine art is presented here by using fine brush strokes and powerful colours like blue and orange. It can be categorized as surrealism. Besides surrealistic elements in the paintings I also used factors derived from the fantastic realism and to a less extend magic realism to give art lovers and art buyers a good visual impression about the artwork. The surrealist Salvador Dali and the magic realist Michael Parkes gave me inspiration to paint these original collections and present them to art lovers and art buyers. Original oil paintings on canvas can be seen on www.haanstrafineart.nl. Of course it’s also possible to buy an artwork here. This original artwork is currently still for sale.

In this painting, in which two mythological tales are visualized, the painter shows the consequence of vanity: decay. It tells the story of Niobe and Ikarus. After Niobe insulted the goddess Leto, her children were assassinated by Apollo and Artemis (the children of Leto). Niobe transforms into stone. Her tears become a waterfall flowing out of the rock. Three horses jump out of the rock, facing their downfall. They are the symbol of vanity. Feathers whirl through the air, as the vain Ikarus, after several warnings still flies to the sun. The wax of the wings constructed by his father melts. Artemis and Apollo rest satisfied in the background.
