Carrot Patch

This horny looking little guy is actually a sea going slug - called a nudibranch, or 'naked lung' in rough translation. Varieties of these animals are found the world over. This one is found in the colder waters of the Pacific - I'll spare the latin name. The orange appendages are called rhinophores and contain a poisonous toxin that is quite distasteful to predators. This guy is but about one inch long, but what he lacks in size he more than makes up for in spectacular beauty. Fish Portrait Series.
