Refugee

I painted this piece in the midst of the War on Iraq. Up until this point I had been unaware of my feelings regarding the war, preferring to block it out and concentrate on my own issues. When the piece was finished I realized it had come directly from my subconscious frustration over the situation and a desire to express what I believe many people felt through that confusing time- a feeling a complete helplessness towards our future as a nation.

Compassionate yet startling. Wonderfully understated visually. You're the whisper heard over the shout.

THIS PIECE WOULD DEFINITELY HAVE BEEN THE WINNER OF THE CONTEST "BLUE". YOU'VE CAPTURED THE DESOLATION AND ISOLATION REFUGEES EXPERIENCE. AND BY MAKING IT A FEMALE, YOU'VE ADDED THE HORROR OF WHAT WOMEN SUFFERED UNDER SUCH CONDITION. VERY SAD. YOUR WORK IS VERY BEAUTIFUL.
