Artist Comments: "Observing pelicans is a fascinating pastime. On the Washington Coast at Seaview, I saw a group of them coming in to land on the beach near the surf to preen and rest. Apparently they had finished feeding and settled on a protected sand bar to rest and digest their breakfast. I chose pastel to paint this pair on Canson Mi-Teintes paper. I sketched the birds, then filled in the background sea and sky, concentrating on the colors of the morning light. Finally I detailed the pelicans with careful attention to detail.”

"First Flight" is a limited edition, giclée print from an original pastel painting by Carol Thompson. Edition length is 3600 authorized, signed, limited edition prints (3500 numbered and 100 artist proofs). Prints on paper are signed and numbered by Carol Thompson, include a signed certificate of authenticity, and are shrink wrapped on fome board.
