A Holiday Treat in Louisiana

Yes, the bloody carcass in the photo is a raccoon (raton laveur en francais). Believe it or not, it's a holiday delicacy in Louisiana. One of the paws is left on to prove that it is not a dog. Raccoons can be hunted and eaten, but not sold commercially. So this fellow and a few others were confiscated by the Office of Public Health in Louisiana. Yum, yum.

Interesting..... wild animals are often used for food, especially in rural areas where the meat may supplement a diet for those without monetary resources. What about all the deer ,elk, wild hog, opossum, squirrel, even armadillo, etc hunting ? Protein is protein.
