Another version of the Red Bird I have been working on. Original sketch in charcoal, colored with pastel and pastel back ground, Then photographed and imported into 3D paint to add some luminescence to the BG.
The northern cardinal (Cardinalis cardinalis) is a bird in the genus Cardinalis; it is also known colloquially as the redbird, common cardinal or just cardinal (which was its name prior to 1985). It can be found in southeastern Canada, through the eastern United States from Maine to Minnesota to Texas, and south through Mexico, Belize, and Guatemala. It is also an introduced species in a few locations such as Bermuda and Hawaii. Its habitat includes woodlands, gardens, shrub-lands, and wetlands. OK I love foreign birds well foreign to me in the UK We have many many wild birds . I would love to see these at the bird feeder. I also live by a river and we see Kingfishers nearly very day. As I look at your work with my tutor hat on I think you have excellent drawing skills, Have you ever thought about using watercolor crayons They are the next step towards painting watercolor work. Just a thought! well done keep going, Brian
GREAT PORTRAIT OF THE RED CARDINAL ... SUCH A NICE BIRD .
Artist Reply: Thank You Marie! I was really pleased with how this turned out. After the initial drawing I considered putting it in the "not good enough box". Yet, I have learned not to give up on a drawing no matter how bad I think it looks in the beginning stages...

Very well done, JD. Just enough varied color in the bird and I like the way you abstracted the background. Everything works great! :)
