Heather VanWinkle has been drawing and painting for most of her life, thanks to the ever-ongoing craft projects of her mother and encouragement from her teachers. Heather studied art throughout high school and after her Junior year she was accepted into the Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute where she studied drawing and sculpture with sculptor John Ahearn as well as sculptor Luiz Jimenez. OSAI was also where she created her first faerie portrait, inspired by the dancers at the institute and Degas' famous sculpture, 14 year old dancer. Since then, Heather has earned an Associates Degree in Humanities and a Bachelors Degree in Liberal Studies. She has also tested in the freestyle levels of figure skating, and became interested in skating art by doing illustrations for the now defunct skating ezine, "Intensity on Ice." Her preferred mediums are watercolor, graphite, and mixed media that includes ink or colored pencil detail. She has done decorative painting, illustration, and logo design for businesses in the US and Canada. Currently she resides in Oklahoma with her husband where she is still refining her style and exploring new ways to approach her art.
