I have a B.F.A. in painting from Arizona State University with prior coursework completed at Syracuse University and the Corcoran School of Art.
I prefer working in acrylic, watercolor, pastel, colored pencil and mixed media.
Regarding sources of artistic inspiration: As a blues and rock and roll fan and collector, I've paid homage to images of favorite musicians such as Gregg Allman, Robert Johnson, Jim Morrison, Jimi Henrdrix, James Brown, Frank Morino and, most recently, Marvin Gaye and "Ace" Frehley.
My abstract works incorporate my preference for a strong palette of color, pattern and texture. Most recent paintings explore thick paint combinations. Many were on display at my recent shows at Hidden Hills Farm and Vineyard and the GWC Art Gallery in Frederick, Maryland in February and March 2019 .
Earlier works reflect my admiration of comic book art. Fan-works of iconic figures incorporate elements of Pop Art, and primary colors.
I've always loved photography as a sideline and switched from film to digital in 2012. Favorite subjects include scenes from Martha's Vineyard, Frederick, MD, and Cherry Blossom trees on the Tidal Basin in Washington, D.C.. My work/training in horticulture has enriched my vision to apply aesthetics from art to the beauty of garden plants and flowers.
Frederick, Maryland is a lively historic town with a lovely canal steps from my downtown apartment. Martha's Vineyard pictures capture favorite island vistas, stone walls, natural vegetation, architectural delights, ponds, boats and beaches from an island where I have vacationed since childhood and the family has a second home.
Giclée versions of selected paintings as well as selected postcards of favorite Martha's Vineyard photos are available.
See my Bog for detail on musician and abstract 2019 paintings exhibited in Frederick MD, and earlier, in Washington D.C. at the Bailey Law Group Annual Art Show; McLauchlin Memorial Staff Exhibits at the Phillips Collection, and the Market 5 Gallery on Capitol Hill. On Martha's Vineyard, MA, pictures and photos have been displayed at recent and past Agricultural Fairs .
