Self Portrait

Ever since i was young i have been able to draw. What started out as the normal drawings of a child, grew, until finally i wanted to spend every waking day drawing. As i got older, i started to send some of my illustrations & stories out to many of the small press horror magazines. After many rejections in this country, i began to get alot of interest from abroad particularly Australia and one magazine in particular... Drusilla's Garden. This filled me with the ambition to make good and carry on. After having several illustrations accepted, along with my stories, i began to get interest from other magazines. Unfortunately when the horror magazines started to die off, so too did the interest in any new magazines. The horror era, so we had heard, was no longer fashionable. No one wanted to read horror anymore, so the small presses died off and the renowned horror writers unfortunately turned their attention to crime to stay in the running of being a top notch writer. Thankfully, my favourite writer James Herbert, stayed on the horror path and for that i was always thankful. So, i started to paint instead of illustrate. Believe me my first few paintings were awful and filled me with much annoyance at not being able to master this type of art. Then one day, armed with a paint brush, a Whitesnake CD and determination, i sat in a little room on my own and at the end of the day came out with a wonderful painting and from there my art grew once again into a totally different direction. One thing i do insist on whilst painting is that i have rock music in the background, which surprisingly helps me relax. A big thank you to all those bands i have loved, cherished and have been and seen in person from the magical era of the 80's, which i am frequently told i have stayed in even to this day....... when something is good etc. And thank you to Roger Daltrey and The Who without whom i would have had no outlet for frustration when paintings go wrong. Many a time i have sat in my car with The Who blaring out and it has helped me to refocus and finish what i started. The best band in the world!!!!! Anyway to finish his off, I am the happiest in my life i have ever been and my painting is going from strength to strength. I have had commissions for them, illustrations and paintings and even the pleasure of just doing this for myself just keeps me on the edge wondering what my brushes are going to come out with next. My claim to fame, doing some artwork for Ingrid Pitt, who along with Barbara Steele, are the first ladies of horror in my book. I delve into many different areas of paintings and places and at the moment i am working on a series of painting inspired from my most favourite place in the world Florida, it has a magic for me that inspires and gives my mind the creativity it craves.

I hope you enjoy looking at these as much as i love painting them.
