I have been considered an 'artist' by family and friends since I was a child. I just consider myself lucky. Though hard work, how often do we get a chance to explore an idea with pictures, share those images, and allow someone to look into a world that wouldn't normally exist for them?
I generally consider my work as 'illustration' in the more traditional sense of the word. I like to have a story to provide inspiration, or just an idea of one in my head. I want my images to convey a kind of 'snapshot' into that world, a moment that captures the essence of that subject's existance, or just make you as the viewer wonder about them. What is their past, what brought them to this moment?
As far as technique, you will find it varies with the subject. I feel this is important in order to capture the meaning in the work. You may see darker shades of Brom, the whimsical style of comics, or the encompassing compositions of Elmore or Keegan. I enjoy the variety.
So, to close, remember to dream when you sleep. It keeps you sane, and allows you to keep from becoming too serious. Life is an adventure. Enjoy it with vigor!
