In colorful oil paintings of beaches and boats, and the flowers, trees and blue skies of the seaside landscape, Leony Wulankayes truly captures the sunny atmosphere of Southern California. Though many of her works revolve around the life and joys of this inimitably beautiful region of America, Wulankayes is not limited to any one specific subject; instead, she is driven to share, through portraits, still lifes, landscapes and abstractions, the people, places and things that she feels most passionately about. Wulankayes' images often explore the complex relationship between humanity and nature, between the man-made and the organic, as evident in her images of architecture in the landscape, pruned trees, domesticated flora, and the boats that help people to enjoy and live off the sea. Her original compositions and bright color spectrum reveal her obvious love of the natural world and celebrate coastal life. Wulankayes is a self-taught painter who received a degree in graphic design from Platt College of Newport Beach, California. She was born in Jakarta, Indonesia, and has lived in California since childhood.
