I began discovering what others over looked by what they threw away as a childhood garbage picker, a practice I still enjoy today. In the past I have worked as an overhead crane operator in various factories and was awed by the geometry in the ceiling grid work and the large machinery on the floor from my aerial view. Inspiration also comes to me by visiting construction sites and studying the bare structure of the framing. The unique patterns and rhythms of water and ice have mesmerized me from an early age and I can frequently be found on the shores of Lake Michigan. I believe with the frequent haste and perceptual prejudice of daily life that the intriguing form and design of the ordinary is missed by many people; from geometric patterns to balanced swirls to refracted light. I enjoy combining disparate everyday objects and casting light or water through them so that new and unusual beauty is reveled and typical perceptions are altered. I accomplish this through unique assemblages that are lighted to induce an “A Ha” reaction in the viewer and through the sound and motion of tranquil fountains that produce a feeling of wonder and a new appreciation of nature in the observer.
