Artist Bio

Ellen Miller Braun was born and educated in Chicago Illinois, U.S.A. She majored in Fine Arts at Northeastern Illinois University, concentrating in textile art with a minor in art education in special education. Her studies also include computer graphics.

Ellen immigrated to Israel with her husband and children in 1983.

Ellen’s Jewish background has guided her in the development of the Biblical themes of her artwork.

The present finds Ellen working with painstaking patience. Her beautiful micro-calligraphy pieces are unique in their development. Ellen first sketches the desired design. She traces this drawing. The tracing is then etched on to paper that will become the “original”. While quite time consuming, this process allows Ellen to keep pencil marks to an absolute minimum, raising the artistic quality of her work. Dipping her pen into watercolor paints, Ellen follows the flowing lines of her etched design, inscribing portions from the Torah, Prophets and Writings. She thus fills each piece of artwork with dramatic color and life. Each reproduction is a beautiful display of vibrant color and spirituality.

Ellen’s past work, patiently hand-sewn sculptures of whimsical Hasidic and Biblical figures, have been exhibited and sold all around Israel, Canada and the United States.

Ellen’s inspiring microcalligraphy and whimsical sculptures are being enjoyed in homes around the world.
