England had Rolls Royce, Germany the Mercedes, Belgium had Minerva and the Netherlands had Spyker, together the most prestigious car brands in Europe at the beginning of the 20th century. Spyker was the brand of a Dutch automobile factory that broke through internationally in the early 20th century, but was closed in 1926. Such a 25 hp Spyker took part in the Beijing-Paris rally between June and August 1907. Behind the wheel was Frenchman Charles Godard, who, much to Spyker's dismay, painted the car in the colors of the French flag. Image size: 260 x 360mm
