Artist Statement Patricia Forbes, Contemporary Abstract Artist Albuquerque, New Mexico

New Mexico abstract artist, Patricia Forbes’ current work reflects the theme “Outer Space…perhaps Inner Space”. This expresses her current spiritual desire to live by following inspiration, and it speaks to the paradoxes of our outer worlds reflecting our inner worlds.

Visually she shows this in wide-open spaces where abstract shapes float and interact. Some pieces have a meditative or Zen-like quality. Others are quite whimsical or evoke fantasy worlds. She has a personal and unique sensitivity to color that shows in her work.

She describes her process by saying “I work with layers of acrylic paint and materials to create a metallic textured background over which I apply more layers of paper and acrylic until I like the composite effect. The result is shimmering, richly textured, richly patterned, color infused work”.

Before moving to Albuquerque in 2001, she lived and worked in the Washington DC area. She studied art at Mary Baldwin College, Staunton, Virginia and in Paris, France. Her work is available at Occasions by Design in Scottsdale, Arizona, at Patrician Design in Albuquerque, New Mexico and at opusArte in Kansas City, Missouri. In 2007 ALBUQUERQUE THE MAGAZINE selected her as Best Local Artist and in 2008 as Best of the Rest.
