Artist Statement  Dave Hay American, b. August 14,1962, Joliet, Il My paintings are inspired by color and movement. They are abstract and color field in nature with vibrant colors that produce a poetic energy of contrast and convergence. I seek to create art that is its own entity, that confronts you, levels the illusion of the picture plane and reveals the truth. I strive to balance this along with a desire to create art with character through color, space, shape and brush stroke, creating an engaging experience for the viewer, both visually and intellectually.

About the Artist I was born in Joliet, Il to an Art teacher and a College Professor and Coach and was raised primarily in Springfield, Massachusetts. I earned a degree in Art from Springfield College and an Art Education degree from  Westfield State College.  I have been teaching as an elementary and middle school Art teacher in western Massachusetts for 19 years. In the past few years I decided to seriously pursue a second career as a fine artist.
