Self Portrait

Ghassan Kharputly is an up and coming new talent on the Jordanian art scene who enjoys working with acrylic colors on cotton canvas and mixed media. Dabbling in drawing, painting, designing, photography, and interior decorating over the years has helped this artist developed his current original technique and style.

Ghassan graduated from Schiller International University in London with a B.B.A. in International Business, and has invested 3 of his college years in drawing and painting classes at the same university as well. His travels have taken him to various parts of the Middle East, Asia and Europe, and a strong cultural influence can be noted in his artwork.

When asked to name some of the cultures that have most deeply impacted his style, Ghassan mentions those of the Mediterranean cultures, the aborigines in Australia, old-style Indonesia, and most importantly, Bali, as his biggest inspirations. "Bali is the island of art, where young children drink their milk while painting."

Simplicity and the magic of colors have also been major inspirations behind Ghassan's work. "I love simple abstract and primitive art, that's why children’s paintings attract me and make me think how simple things can be so complicated at the same time!"
