Self Portrait

i am a fiifty-four year old englishman living in cornwall, england with my wife hannah and six idle cats, jasmine, munchy, ceefa, zheera, chai and kato.

i was born in london in 1956, raised in suffolk, east anglia and spat from grammar school into the loving embrace of the (scottish) fourth royal tank regiment, royal armoured corps in the early seventies.

i'm sure that i was being oversensitive when upset at being described as a southern c**t (for walking on the grass) within seconds of my signing up, but my khaki-clad tour operators rapidly redeemed themselves by educating me to the delights of, among other places, canada, germany, usa, holland, cyprus (and northern ireland)....my true education really started and a love of travel flourished.

the extent of my soft headedness with regard to cats became apparent when living in cornwall in the eighties when it seemed that every three-legged, bus-ticket-eared, boot-faced, incontinent specimen in the county moved in 'sans invitation'.

my love of all things nautical (and wetland birds in particular) stemmed from six years of life aboard "koyaanisqatsi" , a forty-two foot nineteen-sixties gentlemans motor yacht (yes, with ships cats). The boat name - as i'm sure many of you will know - comes from the movie of the same name and is a hopi indian word meaning 'life in turmoil; life out of balance; crazy life'

during this time I aquired a pure mathematics 'a' level, an art degree, several commissions, acceptance for exhibitions, a fetish for times crossword puzzles and an almost spiritual feeling for the ocean. i am fortunate to have had the opportunity to exhibit in such cities as new york, stuttgart, münster, toronto, berlin.....and bournemouth.

in 1986, whilst exhibiting in calgary, canada, i was asked to prepare a series of simple sketches which showed the essence of the feline for use in a national campaign for a canadian cat charity. those sketches became a personal favourite - a series of four ink studies titled "the essential cat". most of my work until recently has been "fine art"- primarily acrylic, oils and ink line drawings - but latterly i have been embracing that time-leech, the computer, and digital imagery. i am hopeful that my competence and familiarity with this medium increases at a faster rate than the deterioration of my middle-aged brain cells and i can produce more radical pictures; time will tell.

thankyou for reading this indulgence; i do hope you'll sign my guest book at fuq-tshirts.com and pop back from time to time to check on the battle between artistic innovation and senility. you never know, i may even have embraced the concept of capital letters.

I am now involved in creating imagery for bespoke t-shirts....please see my website.
