Self Portrait

I am a self taught Cartoonist/Illustrator/Graphic Artist. Some current and past clients as well as some project highlights in no particular order: * First published cartoon was a single panel political cartoon titled "HEADS" which ran in The Edmonton Sun in 1985.Also had my first editorial cartoons published by this paper. * First commissioned portrait in 1988 (Twinn Dancers). *In the same year I did my first of a yearly portrait for The Alberta Recording Industry Association (ARIA). This portraitwas for the Lifetime Achievement Award which has been presented to Canadian (Albertan)music icons such as Joni Mitchell, Producer David Foster,The Stampeders,Jann Arden,Country music pioneers Hank Smith and Wilf Carter,Ian Tyson(Ian & Sylvia),Canadian Senator Tommy Banks(winner of the 1980 Montreaux Jazz Festival and Canadian television personalilty)...to name a few. * Won an ARIA award for "Album Design of the Year" in 1990 for a front cover illustration of a CD project called "Alberta Country". ? In 1992 I had the first of many editorial cartoons published in The Edmonton Journal (Alberta's largest daily paper, Circ.220,000) * In 1993 I was commissioned to do a major project for The Alberta Government. The project entailed drawing illustrations and cartoons for 13 schoolbooks, subjects ranging from English and Science to Social Studies. It involved single panel illustrations, comic book style cartoons,designing characters (students, teachers) for use throughout the books and many historical type drawings. It was a 4 month project and totaled over 750 drawings. * In 1993 I drew an editorial cartoon live on CBC Alberta as a feature for coverage of the Alberta Provincial Election. ? 1994 saw me start freelancing editorial illustrations and cartoons for the Letters to the Editor page in the Op/Ed section of The Edmonton Journal. I am in my ninth year with them as of this "resume" (Feb.2003) and have drawn nearly 1200 illustrations to date. * In 2001 I started drawing the editorial cartoons for SEE Magazine in Edmonton (weekly arts/entertainment tabloid). Placed 2nd in their annual survey of most viewed feature in 2001. *Received first death threat in April 2002 over an editorial cartoon in SEE Magazine ( oddly enough this is seen as a "badge of honor" among fellow editorial cartoonists). * Completed 50th CD album/cassette design Member of the Association of Canadian Editorial Cartoonists(ACEC) *Contributing cartoonist to CartoonStock, a British based web site that distributes editorial and gag cartoons as well as caricatures to a world wide network of various publications, schools, websites etc.
