Self Portrait

Tomás Castaño was born in Santander (Spain) in 1953. An internationally recognized, self-taught artist, he has forged himself through determination and enthusiasm, opting for a realistic pictorial style, which he approaches by capturing constructed and welldrawn compositions. , worrying about composition and drawing, he controls perspective and also the faculties that have led him to achieve a status as a landscape designer characterized by his architectural work. His work is characterized by a serene and poetic realism, which translates the artist's delight in the expression of traditional streets, buildings and facades. His paintings capture the magic of ancient aesthetics and transmit all the warmth and humanization of environments not transformed by current life. He has shown his work in group exhibitions in several countries such as the United States, India, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Romania, Sweden, Germany, Holland, France, Portugal, Argentina, Italy and numerous individual and group exhibitions. in Spanish territory. He has represented Cantabria at the Florence Biennale in the 2005 edition. His work is recognized for the peculiar style and atmosphere that he creates in the finishing of his series of ancient taverns. His work appears in collections in Spain, France, Australia, Portugal, Greece, Taiwan, India, the United Kingdom, Mexico, Puerto Rico, the United States and Costa Rica. In 2012 he was invited by The General Electric Company, USA to participate in the Hispanic Heritage Month art exhibition. In 2012 he was invited by the Bellarte Seoul-Korea Gallery to participate in the Seoul Ibero-American Art Fair 2012 and 2013, showing his work alongside works by prestigious artists such as Fernando Botero, Oswaldo Guayasamín, Rufino Tamayo and Roberto Fabelo. In 2015 he was selected to exhibit at the most important Asia-Pacific event ART REVOLUTION TAIPEI 2016 (Taiwan). He has been selected as a finalist of the Art Revolution Taipei 2017, 2018 and 2019 Competition, obtaining the Gallery award in the last edition. In 2022 he will be at this important fair. Again in 2023 he has been a finalist in ART revolution Taipei and also invited to participate in the aforementioned fair. His work is permanently exhibited at the Cromática Museum. Toledo, the only museum in the world with painted musical instruments. In February 2023, his work “Brave Bull” is the cover of the new album by the legendary Chicago rock band URGEOVERKILL, famous for the soundtrack of Quentin Tarantino's film PULP FICTION. Two of his works “Toro Brave” and “Young man running along the Malecón” have been the cover of the books “The land we step on” published in the Netherlands and “Fuácata” published in Mexico, in 2023 the work “Escaparate” was cover of the book “Malevolent Tales” Revuelta-Perú publishing house. A series of works dedicated to New York in the 1930s illustrates a new edition of the book of poems “Lorca poet in New York” Permanent work at Sharon-León Gallery, Montsequi-Madrid Gallery, Este-Santander Gallery and Galicca-Santiago de Compostela Gallery.
