ABOUT MY WORK:
I, Laura Elliott, am a young contemporary artist who has been passionate about art for my whole life. I have gained UK qualifications in Art and Design and am presently in my 2nd year of an Art and Media BA (Hons).
I consider my work to be bold, experimental and progressive. My university work explores deep and introspective concepts, exploring my self, identity and the world around me, with past and present uniting. I will place more of my university work online once it is documented and photographed. Artistic influences are both male and female. However, as a woman I enjoy exploring female contemporary work, such as Maggie Hambling, Sarah Lucas, Tracey Emin, Jenny Saville and other such exciting progressive and challenging art. Their work relates to me in a profound way and this inspires me and spurs me on.
I am a drawer, painter and photographer, and often use multimedia within my art. My work explores the concepts of emotion, memory, location, self and identity. Using abstract expressionist and impressionistic painting techniques, I create a wide range of work from landscape to figurative. My portfolio contains work I have created through life, including artwork for sale and artwork created during my Art degree.
I love the way colours can influence a person or a location and this excites me. I feel that colour can explore and connote a deep emotional meaning to viewers of my work and this is a central consideration when each painted piece is created. Art comes alive within people's minds and I aim to ignite the same excitement within every person who sees or buys my work.
