Self Portrait

My dream growing up has always been to be a comic artist. Ive spent over 20 years in the I.T. field, and though its a great way to supplement my income, I know that its not where I belong. Ive been drawing cartoons since I was in elementary school; however, I have been perfecting the craft of cartooning for about ten years, creating a single-panel strip called Over The Edge. At the time, it wasnt for public consumption because I didnt feel the quality was quite THERE yet. Last year, I opened the doors to my website, www.otecomics.com and asked readers to submit feedback. It was very positive. One of my readers describes my work perfectly: Its Edgy but not crude. I am not out to offend anyone, to editorialize, or to draw lines in the sand. On the other hand, I don't want anyone to fall asleep reading my comics!I just want to make people laugh...(and maybe under their breath whisper "oh, that's just wrong!"). What can I say? Im a lovable guy! As for my style, I have two major influences: Gary Larsons humor, (The Far Side), and Berkeley Breatheds artwork, (Bloom County). My comic strip is not identical to either cartoonist, however, but as another visitor to my website put it, a little FANDOM TRANSFER is not a bad thing. I hope you will agree.

I'm not where I want to be quality-wise, but is any artist? I have to push the baby bird out of the nest sometime, and hope it flys. This is why this site exists.

Although my comic website is a hobby, the cartoons are a passion, and I hope that passion has translated over to what you will be examining.

If you're wondering, Yes I DO other mediums. I love using pencil, pen & ink, charcoal, colored pencils, pastels, and oils. The preferred subjects range from landscapes to animals to portraits. I'll describe my skills with each as above average/below perfect, and leave it at that. However, I would like this site to focus on my comics, since that is my ultimate goal in life. Placing paintings and drawings on my site would be like a photographer using his portfolio for showing of his quilting skills. So the rest of my art will be lovingly omitted. I hope you enjoy! Thank you sincerely for stopping by!
