Hello! My name is Michelle Duffy (if you haven't already figured it out), and I am very pleased to meet you. I am a freelance, self-taught artist, and a professional with many areas of expertise: ink, pencil, color pencil, water color and acrylic paint.
I live in lovely--And Not as Rainy as You Think--Seattle, Washington, with my gorgeous boyfriend Jason and our adorabalist kitty-cat Mokey.
I have been drawing and creating for as long as I can remember. I find that when I am engrossed in a project everything disapears until it is just me, the pen, the paper, and good music. My artistic influences range from Art Nouveau, to fantasy, pulp sci-fi, and contemporary illustration. I really admire the works of Alphonse Mucha, John William Waterhouse, Edmund Dulac, Aubrey Beardsley, Kinuko Y. Craft, Tony Diterlizzi, Thomas Canty, Charles Vess, Yoshitaka Amano, Paulina Stuckey and Marc Chagall.
I love, love, love music. Did I tell you that I love music? Because I do! The musicians that saved my life are Morrissey, The Smiths, Peter Murphy, Bauhaus, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, PJ Harvey, The Cure, The Changelings, The Chameleons UK, The Cranes...and many, many more.
Particular books and movies have had a significant influence on my life. From a young age I have been an avid reader, winning many geektastic reading prizes in elementary school. My favourite children's authors are Roald Dahl, Lynne Reid Banks, C.S. Lewis and John Bellairs. My favorite poets/authors are Christina Rossetti, Jamaica Kincaid, Amy Tan, Anne Rice, Charles de Lint, Jodie Forrest, Roger Zelazny and Tanith Lee. I also love the collected fairy tale retellings by editors Terry Windling and Ellen Datlow.
As far as movies are concerned, my current favorites are Donnie Darko, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Big Fish, and of course The Lord of the Rings trilogy.
