METAL SCULPTOR SCULPTURE BILLIARD Dan Romano is a native of Colorado Springs and now resides in Cascade, Colorado. His grandparents immigrated to this area at the turn of the last century from Italy, choosing this area as it resembled their native land. His father did some sculpture but mainly focused in oil painting. His oldest brother John sculpted abstract marble, wood, and sandstone sculptures, also Black and White photography. As Dan grew up, the art around him changed from mere objects into portals of influence.

His knowledge and skills of working with metal and other mediums developed through various positions in industrial manufacturing. Working as a Machinist, Welder, and concrete finisher fueled his desire to create.

From Dan's studies of the affects and applications of patination on different metals for preservation and/or appearance, he has expanded his ability to express his vision from that of form, to surface finish and color as well. His relationship with metal work grew, influenced by his industrial experiences, and softened by his passion for nature, blend in an organic element throughout his art. Also, the huge influence of Eastern culture, then Japanese and Chinese traditions has touched his life in every way. With his respect for architecture and its variations through time, aids Dan to design his work with more clarity.

When speaking about his work, Dan says: "Each concept is connected to a feeling brought about when an image comes to mind. I then attempt to capture this image in a particular medium, to re-play the same emotion, not just for myself, but in hopes perhaps for others as well. To reflect a particular feeling....my work is based in this transfer."

Artists who inspire his work "...To credit my inspiration to a simple list of people, style, or category could only partly relay that which instills me to create. The affect of a song, the way the moon passes through the trees, the design of a building, the way autumn leaves turn, or the way tall grass translates the wind, a piece of literature, the precise movement of an athlete, rain interrupting a pool of water. These are all examples of; a performance, a combination of sounds, or an image which radiate a type of energy. This energy triggers an emotional response within us. To me art is one way humans have found to relay emotions. In fact, it works so well, its affect is sometimes forgotten as a reflection, but seems to be the actual source."

Dan's working studio in the "old north end of Colorado Springs. His father constructed the building in 1950 to start his own business, and now serves as great studio/gallery. Other work can be viewed in downtown Manitou Springs Colorado at the Shoshone spring in the 800 block of Manitou Avenue.
