Self Portrait

KZ creates mixed media paintings, primarily using acrylic. Her work is known to contains layers, lots of texture, scratching, and a wide variety of elements. Her art demonstrates the complexity we have within us; the chaos and the calm, the pain and the healing, the conscious and the subconscious.

KZ's educational background and experiences set her apart from her fellow artists. She doesn’t hold an art degree or have other formal training related to art; her work is primarily inspired by her surroundings and her own introspection. She doesn’t create based on training and lessons; she creates based on emotion. As a self-taught artist, she allows her emotions and inspiration guide her.

“My background and experiences have a significant impact in my art. One half of me is my logical Self with a full-time career centered around data, analytics, problem solving, and improving complex processes. My other half is my artistic Self; the part of me that craves expression, creativity, and passion. Creating art is not a full-time job for me; it’s a way to let my other half free and embrace both sides of my identity.

We are all filled with so many complexities that sometimes there are no words, metaphors, or phrases to explain the depth inside of us. One of my favorite quotes by Paul Klee is, 'Art does not reproduce the visible, rather, it makes it visible.'

For me, art is about a connection to your soul. It’s a sense of deep understanding and feeling a magnetic pull towards something that speaks to you. Almost like the moment you see it, you know it’s yours. That’s how I want others to feel when they see my art.”
